The essence of a Slow Jigging rod, lies in its operability when it comes to jerking the rod (repeated action of lifting and lowering the tip of the rod quickly).

The Shimano Ocea Jigger Infinity lineup uses full, one piece blanks, which are slender and finished with a slow taper. This series has been revamped compared to the previous Infinity line up. A new type of grip, with Cork instead of the black foam material, upgraded blank make up and X Guides are a few of the areas that Shimano improved. Both the raw material and the blank production method have been improved significantly, to produce more lightweight and more powerful rods, that offer a better sensation during fishing.

In the previous Shimano Infinity lineup, most of the bend would concentrate at the tip of the rod. Now the bend goes all the way to the middle of the rod’s blank offering more comfort during the fight. The smooth bend flows from the tip of the rod, to the numerous support points, all the way to the grip, allowing anglers better control of the jig.

The Spiral X technology suppresses the effects of twists and bends of the rod, keeping power loss to a minimum while retaining the slim and slender profile of the blank. To those who wish to Slow Jig swiftly with quick actions even at great depth, the monsters in unchartered waters, should jump into the advances made in the Ocea Jigger Infinity rods.

What length rod for slow pitch jigging? ›

For slow pitch jigging, you'll generally want a rod that is between 6 to 7 feet in length. A shorter rod is less tiring when fishing big jigs in deep water. Slow pitch jigging rod actions are often surprisingly light. Anglers rely more on the reel than the rod to fight the fish.

What gear ratio is good for slow jigging? ›

With precise movements, the angler can make the bait look like a moving and alive but wounded fish. Keeping that in mind, the optimal gear ratio for slow jigging is 7.5:1 to 8.3:1. This is a high ratio, but that is what you'd want to have in a slow jigging reel.

What is the difference between a jigging rod and a slow jigging rod? ›

Standard vertical jigging is violent and much faster to get the fish to chase, while slow pitch is much more rhythmic and the jig flutters and falls to the fish."

What lb leader for slow pitch jigging? ›

What line do I use for slow pitch jigging? While many speed jiggers routinely fish 50 to 80 pound braid, for slow pitching, Ortiz goes with 30-pound braid unless dropping to water deeper than 400 feet, when he'll go down to 20-pound.

What is the best rod length for pitching jigs? ›

When used properly and locked in place firmly these telescopic rods will not collapse when you are fishing and they are just as strong as one piece rods. For pitching, most anglers opt for slightly shorter rods, around 7 feet, 6'8"-7'3" being the popular range.

What pound line for slow pitch jigging? ›

Best Slow Pitch Jigging Line

I choose anywhere from 15- to 40-pound braid (or PE line ratings of 0.8 to 2.5).

What is the best depth for slow pitch jigging? ›

SPJ is primarily a bottom fishing tactic and is downright deadly on snapper and grouper in 60 to 200 feet of water, as well as species like tile fish, snowy grouper, and barrel fish in deep-drop territory. Slow-pitch jigs can also be worked in the middle of the water column for tuna, which can't resist a jig.

What is the best rod action for jigging? ›

Most anglers would agree that having a fast-action rod (which bends more in the tip than the middle or butt of the rod, as opposed to a slow action rod which bends more or less in a parabola from tip to butt) is advantageous for making the quick hook-sets jigging demands.

What is a good gear ratio for jig fishing? ›

Low speed reels

I put any reel with a gear ratio between 5.4:1 and 6.4:1 in this group. They're at their best when you need to slow roll a spinnerbait, drag a jig or fish a crankbait. They keep your speed down and give you just a little bit of hesitation when you set the hook.

What is the best gear ratio for a bladed jig? ›

Tackle Recommendations

Throw your bladed jig on a 7-foot medium-heavy or heavy action casting rod and a high speed baitcast reel (6.3:1 to 8:1.1 gear ratio).

What is the best gear ratio for casting? ›

Gear ratios on most brands of baitcast reels range from 5.0:1 to 9.1:1. The pros use high speed models (7.1:1 to 9.1:1) for most applications because they know it is easier to slow down a retrieve with a fast reel than it is to crank faster with a low-speed model.
